This session will explore the extraction processes for bioactive compounds from marine by-products, focusing on transitioning from pilot-scale methods to industrial-scale applications. Prof. Messina will provide insights into best practices for selecting fish by-products based on factors such as species, growth phase, and geographic origin. The session will cover:

• Conventional and green technologies for extraction.
• Methods to extract valuable components, including nitrogenous and proteic compounds.
• Production of protein hydrolysates, fish oils enriched with omega-3 fatty acids, carotenoids, and polyphenols.
• Comparing yield, quality, and bioactivity of fractions obtained from different extraction methods.
